REMOTE  BRANCH IMPEDANCES COMMAND

This Add | Remote Branch Impedances command in the DS Relays Window shows graphically the impedance of transmission lines that are attached to the remote bus.  This graphical display is useful for visualizing zone-2 reach as a percentage of the remote line impedances.

Note:  Because of infeeds, the apparent impedance of faults on these remote lines does not lie directly on these dotted lines.  The actual reach of zone 2 must be checked with intermediate faults on the remote lines.

TO ADD REMOTE BRANCH IMPEDANCES:

1.    Select the Add | Remote Impedances command.

The impedances of the remote transmission lines will be displayed as dotted lines on the plot.  The length and orientation of the dotted lines reflect the impedance of the lines in primary ohms.

Each remote line is annotated with the name of the far-end bus and the line impedance in primary ohms. You change the position of these annotations using the mouse.

When there are more than one distance relay characteristics in the Distance Relay window, the remote line impedances are added to each of the relay characteristics, provided that the relay is forward, and not reverse, looking.
